Hair loss is a common problem, affecting half of all men and a quarter of all women under 50 years of age. But despite being a frequent occurrence, hair loss can be devastating. Both men and women often develop anxiety, depression and low self-esteem due to hair loss. Over time, hair loss can take a toll on your social functioning and well-being.

In the past, hair loss restoration was limited to medication and surgery. Today, however, exosome therapy can help naturally restore fuller, thicker hair using minimally invasive techniques with few side effects and no downtime.

What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are types of cell vesicles (CV), which are tiny sacs formed by cell membranes that move substances in and out of cells. One of their purposes is to signal nearby and distant cells to perform tasks, like tissue regeneration.

Exosomes are carriers of biological materials like proteins, lipids, mRNA and DNA. In regenerative and aesthetic medicine, they are capable of carrying endogenous growth factors and even drugs to promote healing and regeneration. They are now being used for cosmetic benefits, including hair loss.

At the Appearance Care Center™, we use exosomes produced by Vitti Labs that have been extracted from ethically sourced human placental or umbilical cord tissue. This treatment is quick, painless and requires no downtime, making it a convenient and popular option for those with hair loss.

While this treatment may help restore a wide range of hair loss, ideal candidates are those with the following characteristics:

  • You have androgenetic alopecia (male- and female-pattern baldness)
  • You are in the early stages of hair loss
  • You are too young for a hair transplant
  • You prefer quick and natural solutions
  • Other treatments have failed to correct your problem

How Exosomes Restore Hair Growth

Exosome therapy involves injecting a serum containing bio-ethically extracted exosomes into the site of hair loss. Exosomes used to restore hair growth contain growth factors, cytokines and mRNA that signal hair follicles to enter the active growth phase (anagen) while also lengthening the time hairs remain in this phase. This helps create naturally thicker and fuller hair.

Results are usually noticeable two months post-treatment. To maintain results for as long as possible, you may need to receive injections every 12 to 18 months. Because the treatment stimulates existing follicles to produce thicker hair for longer, the results are natural-looking.
This treatment is a fantastic choice for patients with androgenetic alopecia, but it can also help with other forms of alopecia.

Benefits of Exosome Therapy

Many nonsurgical treatments promise to restore hair growth, but not all of them offer the benefits that come with exosome therapy:

  • Scalp revitalization at the cellular level
  • Greater hair density within two months
  • Thicker and longer hair for months on end
  • Natural-looking results
  • Quick procedure with no downtime
  • Three treatment sessions for best results

The Procedure

We will first numb your skin with lidocaine to minimize discomfort. Once the treatment area is numb, we will proceed with the exosome injections. Most patients require several dozen injections for the best results. The whole treatment should take about 30 minutes or less. Patients can resume their day with no downtime required.

The Results

Results usually become noticeable after two to three months. The exosomes will continue to take effect over several months, so you should notice continuous improvement over six to twelve months, if not longer. Many clients notice an increase in hair density as well as strand thickness.

Book an Appointment

Please contact the Appearance Care Center™ to book a consultation via email or by dialing (415) 567-7200. You will meet with Dr. Corey S. Maas or one of our trained providers, who will discuss your concerns and goals and determine whether you are a good candidate for exosome hair restoration therapy. Although most patients can receive this treatment, others may benefit from alternatives like platelet-rich plasma injections, which are also offered at our practice.

FAQs

Is exosome therapy safe?

Exosome therapy is generally safe, especially with FDA-cleared solutions that have been tested for safety and quality. At the Appearance Care Center™, we use exosomes produced by Vitti Labs, which have been bio-ethically sourced and manufactured under the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and FDA Regulations of Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/Ps) guidelines.

How long does it take for exosomes to grow hair?

Once injected, exosomes start taking effect immediately. But it may take up to two weeks before you start noticing new hairs. That’s because cell division within hair follicles and dermal papillae takes time. Exosomes continue to promote hair growth over many months, which means continuous improvement in hair density.

How long will my results last?

You can expect your results from exosome therapy to last at least 12 to 18 months, although results may vary greatly from patient to patient.

Does exosome therapy require downtime?

Exosome therapy does not require much preparation or downtime. Patients are encouraged to continue with their usual routine immediately after treatment. However, for best results, you may need to avoid washing the treatment area, direct sun exposure and NSAIDs for two to three days following treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Patients require about three treatment sessions. To maintain your results indefinitely, you may need to return for maintenance treatments every four months. Your optimal treatment schedule will depend on how well your hair is growing.

What is the difference between PRP and exosome hair restoration?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and exosome therapy are both cell-derived therapies used to restore hair growth. With PRP, we use your own blood to isolate platelets that will accelerate hair growth. With exosome therapy, we use cell components isolated from donor tissues. Exosomes therapy is shorter and does not require blood drawing. PRP, on the other hand, involves the use of your own cells and growth factors.

What other uses for exosomes are there?

We can also use exosomes for skin rejuvenation. Exosomes can be combined with microneedling or injected to diminish signs of aging and improve the skin’s overall appearance.
