Are you interested in rejuvenating your skin but anxious about the cost, time and scheduling involved with an in-office treatment? Do you wish you could achieve age-reversing results with the flexibility of a treatment that fits your schedule? If these concerns resonate with you, we are excited to introduce you to carboxytherapy (carboxy) gel, a powerful at-home mask treatment that can restore a smoother, more even complexion.

This comprehensive carboxy guide delves into the science behind this therapy, its numerous benefits and the process of using the mask. Learn how this innovative treatment can address multiple skin concerns, from scars and dark spots to fine lines and wrinkles, all from the comfort of your own home.

What Is Carboxytherapy?

Carboxytherapy is a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment that involves the therapeutic use of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas to improve the health and appearance of the skin. The traditional method for carboxytherapy uses injections with a fine needle to deliver CO2 beneath the skin and stimulate regeneration and repair. This proven therapy has been used since the 1930s, and now, we’ve harnessed the power of CO2 in the form of a gel mask you can use at home and achieve similar results.

What Is Carboxytherapy Gel?

Carboxytherapy gel is a noninvasive cosmetic product that provides the benefits of traditional carboxytherapy without the need for injections. It is a specially formulated topical gel that, when applied to the skin, achieves the regenerative benefits of CO2 infusion.

What Skin Concerns Can Carboxytherapy Treat?

Carboxytherapy supports the skin’s natural rejuvenation processes, making it effective in addressing various cosmetic concerns. Regular use of carboxy gel can lead to noticeable improvements in skin tone, texture and overall appearance.

Carboxytherapy gel can improve the following:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Scars
  • Loose or sagging skin
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dark spots
  • Blotchy, uneven skin tone
  • Dry, rough skin texture

On What Areas Can I Use Carboxytherapy?

While the carboxytherapy gel mask is typically used on the face, it can be used on nearly any area of the body, including the neck, chest and hands.

What Are the Benefits of Carboxytherapy Gel?

Noninvasive Therapy

Unlike traditional carboxytherapy, which involves injecting CO2 beneath the skin’s surface, carboxy gel is a topical treatment that does not require needles or injections. This makes it an appealing option for those who prefer to avoid the discomfort and potential risks associated with more invasive procedures.

Easy to Use at Home

Carboxy gel is simple to apply and can be incorporated into your regular skincare routine without the need for frequent visits to a professional. This convenience allows you to experience the benefits of carboxytherapy from the comfort of your own home.

How Does Carboxytherapy Work?

The Bohr Effect: CO2 and Oxygen

Carboxytherapy works by delivering CO2 to the skin through a controlled release mechanism that causes the Bohr effect. The Bohr effect is a physiological phenomenon that describes the relationship between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood. Discovered by Danish physiologist Christian Bohr in 1904, this principle states that when there is a high level of carbon dioxide in the blood, hemoglobin is more likely to release oxygen, allowing our bodies to efficiently deliver oxygen to the areas that need it most.

As the CO2 from the carboxytherapy mask is absorbed into the skin, the body reacts by dilating the blood vessels (a process called vasodilation) to increase blood flow and deliver oxygen to the target area.

How Does Oxygen Improve the Skin?

Cellular Renewal

As the largest organ in the human body, the skin relies on a continuous supply of oxygen to support cellular processes, including cell division. As the skin cells divide, new cells form to replace the old ones. This process of cellular turnover slows down as we age, resulting in a buildup of old skin cells that can leave the skin looking dull. The flood of oxygen to the skin from carboxytherapy promotes cellular turnover for more vibrant and healthy skin.

Collagen Production

Collagen, the most abundant protein in the skin, provides strength, elasticity and structure. Oxygen is required for the synthesis of collagen, as it participates in the formation of hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine, two essential amino acids for collagen stability. By supporting collagen production, carboxytherapy helps maintain skin firmness and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Wound Healing and Anti-inflammation

Oxygen plays a critical role in the wound healing process. It supports the proliferation of fibroblasts and keratinocytes, which are essential for skin repair and regeneration. Oxygen also helps deliver nutrients to the wound site, accelerating healing and enabling the breakdown and elimination of waste and inflammation.

Carboxytherapy leverages the benefits of oxygen to effectively repair localized skin damage like scars and stretch marks and diminish dark circles and eye bags. Furthermore, carboxytherapy supports the skin’s natural detoxification processes for clear and healthy skin. Carboxytherapy also aids in the elimination of waste, allowing for faster recovery after cosmetic procedures.

Doesn’t Harm the Skin

Many nonsurgical treatments use lasers or radiofrequency energy to cause minor damage in the treatment area and stimulate healing and repair. Carboxytherapy works to promote the natural healing process without harming your skin.

Versatile

Carboxy gel can address a wide range of cosmetic concerns, from sun damage to signs of aging and more. Its versatility makes it an attractive option for those looking to tackle multiple skin issues with a simple treatment.

Suitable for Various Skin Types and Ages

Carboxytherapy gel is generally well-tolerated and can be used on different skin types, making it a suitable option for a wide range of individuals. It is also great for young patients just starting to notice signs of aging and older patients looking to rejuvenate their skin.

How to Use the Carboxytherapy Gel Mask

Using the carboxy gel mask is a simple and noninvasive process that can be done at home yourself, or we can apply it for you after a procedure at our office.

When using the mask at home, follow these steps to ensure proper application and optimal results:

Step 1: Cleanse Your Skin

Before applying the carboxy gel mask, thoroughly cleanse your face (or other treatment area) to remove any dirt, oil and makeup. This will allow the mask to better penetrate your skin and deliver its full benefits.

Step 2: Mix the Packets

In your carboxytherapy box will be two packets. Empty the contents of both into a clean bowl and stir them together for about one minute with the supplied mixing stick to activate the CO2.

Step 3: Apply the Gel to Your Skin

Apply the gel mixture evenly to your face or desired treatment area in a thick layer. This patented gel holds the CO2 in your skin throughout the process.

Step 4: Relax for 45 Minutes

Allow the mask to work its magic for about 45 minutes. During this time, you may experience a slight tingling sensation, which is normal and indicates that the carboxytherapy process is working. The mask typically feels cool on the skin and is pain-free.

Step 5: Remove the Mask and Cleanse

After the designated time has passed, carefully remove the gel from your face. You can peel off the thicker layers of the mask and then use a damp cloth or cotton pads to gently wipe away any remaining residue. Finally, cleanse your skin with water to ensure all traces of the mask are removed.

Step 6: Follow Up With Skincare

After using the carboxy gel mask, you may continue with your regular skincare routine. Apply any serums, moisturizers or other products as you normally would to nourish and protect your skin, but avoid potentially irritating products for at least one day.

No downtime is needed, so you can continue your schedule as usual after using this product.

How Often Should I Use Carboxytherapy Gel?

For Skin Rejuvenation

If you’re using carboxy on its own for more supple, hydrated skin, we recommend a series of three treatments, each performed approximately one week apart.

For Post-procedure Healing

If you’d like to add carboxytherapy to your treatment protocol for faster healing after a cosmetic procedure, we recommend doing one immediately after your treatment and subsequent carboxy masks every other day for a total of three treatments.

Monthly Maintenance Treatments

Regular use of the carboxy mask can help you achieve and maintain optimal skin hydration and health. After your initial treatment series, we recommend repeating the mask monthly for continued benefits.
