The Appearance Care Center™ was founded on the belief that our patients deserve the best. That’s why we’re excited to be one of the first practices in the nation to offer a game-changing new solution for unwanted wrinkles: Daxxify.
Daxxify is the newest FDA-approved Botox alternative that relaxes wrinkles by temporarily stopping muscle contractions. But while the effects of Botox and other neuromodulators typically last for three to four months, Daxxify is showing results for six months or more in clinical trials. This is a longer-lasting result than any other wrinkle-relaxing injectable on the market.
What Is DAXXIFY™?
Daxxify (daxibotulinumtoxinA) is a new type of injectable neurotoxin. It was developed by Revance Aesthetics, the company that makes the RHA Collection of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.
Neurotoxins specifically target dynamic wrinkles, which occur when the face is in motion. For static wrinkles, which are not related to muscle movement and therefore visible when the face is at rest, dermal fillers are typically the preferred treatment.
Like Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA), Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA), Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) and Jeuveau (prabotulismtoxinA), Daxxify contains a small, highly purified amount of botulinum toxin. This family of medicines reduces wrinkles by “freezing” the underlying muscles, which allows the overlying skin to relax. The effect wears off over time, and most patients schedule several sessions per year to maintain their results.
How Does DAXXIFY™ Work?
Neuromuscular blocking agents like Daxxify work by preventing nerve signals from reaching the treated muscles. When the muscles do not receive these signals, they do not contract. This reduces wrinkles in the area and helps keep new wrinkles from forming.
This is how all neuromodulators work, regardless of brand name. What sets individual products apart is their formulation and manufacturing process, which translates to differences in factors such as:

- Indications of use
- Units administered
- Tendency to spread
- Duration of results

How Did DAXXIFY™ Perform in Clinical Trials?
Daxxify has had promising results in clinical trials. One month after injections, 98% of the thousands of participating patients had little or no appearance of wrinkles. Half of the participants were fully or nearly wrinkle-free in the treated area after six months, and some still had results after nine months.
Patients in the trials did not experience serious side effects. The most common side effects observed were headache, drooping eyelids and facial asymmetry, which are risks with any neuromodulator.
DAXXIFY™ vs. Botox: How Do They Compare?
There are two key differences between Daxxify and Botox (and other neurotoxins).
The first is the duration of results. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau are expected to last three to four months for most patients. Daxxify is showing results for six months, and sometimes longer. It is worth noting, however, that patients using other neurotoxins at higher dosages have also seen results lasting six months or more.
The second important distinction is the formulation. Daxxify is the only neuromodulator that does not contain human serum albumin (a protein found in human blood) or animal-based components. Instead, it is made from proprietary peptide technology. This technology contributes to Daxxify’s longevity and allows it to be stored more easily, without refrigeration.

What Uses Is DAXXIFY™ Approved For?
Daxxify is currently FDA-approved to treat glabellar lines, the vertical frown lines sometimes called “11s” that appear between the eyebrows. We expect Revance to seek approval for more cosmetic uses in the future, and perhaps for therapeutic uses as well.
We also predict that injectors will use Daxxify for “off-label” purposes, as they do Botox and other neurotoxins. Some of the most popular off-label uses for neurotoxins include nonsurgical brow lifting, lip enhancement (“lip flip”), nonsurgical rhinoplasty, jawline sculpting, minimizing chin dimples and correcting a gummy smile.
What Are the Potential Side Effects of DAXXIFY™?
Daxxify demonstrated no serious safety concerns in clinical trials. As with any injectable neurotoxin treatment, patients may experience bruising, swelling, redness or discomfort around the injection site temporarily after treatment. Less common side effects may include headache, eyelid drooping or facial asymmetry. Daxxify’s safety profile is consistent with other neuromodulators.
Who Is a Candidate for DAXXIFY™?
Most people who are in good health and do not have allergies to the ingredients are candidates for Daxxify. It may be an especially appealing option for patients who want to minimize the time spent on upkeep while maximizing their results. We believe our patients will love the convenience of needing fewer annual treatments to maintain their desired look.
Due to its longevity, Daxxify may be best-suited to patients who are already experienced with injectables. Using shorter-acting products can be a way to “test drive” neurotoxins before committing to a long-lasting product. This is a consideration because, unlike many popular dermal fillers, neurotoxins cannot be reversed before they wear off naturally.
What Results Are Expected With DAXXIFY™?
In clinical trials, Daxxify showed noticeable effects as early as three days after treatment. This is consistent with most other neuromodulators, which typically produce visible results in three to five days.
The results of neurotoxin treatments are both short-term and cumulative. After each individual session, the product temporarily stops muscle movement and softens unwanted lines. Over time, with repeated treatments, neurotoxins can help prevent new lines from forming and train your muscles to stay in a more relaxed state. You may eventually need less product to achieve your desired results.
How Many DAXXIFY™ Treatments Are Needed?
Maintaining a regular treatment schedule under the guidance of our staff will help ensure that you receive the best results possible long-term. Because Daxxify can last six to nine months with a single treatment, you may only need maintenance injections once or twice per year.
