Xeomin is one of the more unknown neuromodulators on the market. Still, just because this category of treatment is obsessed with products like Botox, it doesn’t mean that Botox is the only (or even the best) option. This is where Xeomin shines — a reliable and forward-thinking brand that can provide results that go toe to toe with the best.
While Botox is the most popular cosmetic treatment on the market, there are other products available that use the same type of botulinum toxin Type A substance and provide similar results to what Botox can achieve. It is challenging to discuss Xeomin without referencing Botox because of how popular and trusted Botox has become.
You should know that the mechanics behind the two treatments are identical. Use a toxin derived from the same bacterium that causes the disease botulism as a neuromodulator, or a substance that will stop the muscles in the face from moving and causing wrinkles. In practice, there are very few distinctions between the two — but having options is always good since different patients have different reactions.
As our body goes through the natural aging process, several key functions in our body begin to slow down—namely, the production of proteins like collagen and elastin and other substances like hyaluronic acid. According to Scientific American, it is estimated that by the age of 20, the average person loses 1% of their collagen production every year. Couple that with decreases in those other substances, and it would be difficult not to notice a change in appearance.
Xeomin works to combat the results of skin degradation by preventing the physical formation of wrinkles on the face. Many people are concerned that this category of products will be cause them to look emotional and overly stoic, but current administration has been perfected by qualified practitioners like those at Appearance Care Center. We are able to target very specific muscles that will preserve natural movement and prevent the formation of wrinkles.
There are subtle differences between Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin, however. These naturally occurring proteins have presumably inactive surrounding proteins, which are stripped away, and thus Xeomin represents the purified form of the active protein. In theory, this means that this product is less likely to produce blocking antibodies and become resistant to the effects of the treatment. While we have found that in clinical settings, this difference is virtually negligible, it is always important to keep in mind as an option for our patients.
Xeomin can treat a host of different concerns, such as:
If you don’t see your particular concern listed, don’t worry — during your consultation, we will be able to let you know if your aesthetic goals can be achieved with Xeomin. If not, we will help you find an alternative treatment that is better aligned with your needs.
Xeomin is a minimally invasive injectable procedure, which means that most people will be considered good candidates for the treatment. If you have realistic expectations about what can be achieved with Xeomin, and you have the treatment performed to match your own preferences and not those of someone else, then you are likely going to be a good fit.
We recommend that you immediately stop smoking since it can damage your body’s ability to heal — weakening the results of your procedure. We also recommend avoiding excessive alcohol and unprescribed drug use as well.
Xeomin is minimally invasive and injectable. This means there is no drawn-out preparation process or need to go through the usual surgical precautions. Considering the amount of correction that can be made with nominal damage to the skin, it is no wonder that Xeomin and other similar treatments have become so popular.
Xeomin (and most other injectables) can be described in three easy steps:
The recovery is quick and painless. You can expect to experience some minor redness, swelling, bruising or soreness at the injection sites, but those symptoms usually subside within a day or two. You can expect to notice fuller features with less wrinkling, causing a much more youthful appearance.
In our experience, Xeomin injections provide a similar clinical effect to that of Botox immediately after injection at the recommended dose (20 units). However, there have been some suggestions that to maintain the expected three-month or longer duration, an amount of 25 units may be more appropriate. We will work with you during your process to figure out the best treatment plan for your condition and unique reactions.
